ity Chevrolet Bonus Points Races This Weekend

May 25th, Cherokee Speedway

May 27th, Harris Speedway

SECA racers will have their chance to shine bright this Memorial Day Weekend, after the past few weeks have been gloomy at best due to Mother Nature dropping rain week after week.

The City Chevrolet Weekly Bonus Points Races are designed to help racers, and promoters. The drivers are rewarded by picking up extra points just for racing, and a nice pay day at each event. The promoters, are rewarded by having a chance to draw cars, that usually race at other SECA sanctioned tracks.

The weekend will kick off on Saturday the 25th at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney S.C with a $1,500 to win event. The big 3/8 high banked, fast oval has seen some very exciting SECA Late Model races thus far in 2013. "The new HTS Hoosier tire has helped bunch the fields back up, making the crate cars more competitive than in the past few years, we have already seen quite a few different winners this season." stated track promoter Lennie Buff

Drivers are reminded the Cherokee Speedway rule(s) requires drivers to run a hard tire on the right rear during the main event only.

On the 27th Memorial Day Monday, the drivers will venture out to the Harris Speedway in Harris N.C for a $2,000 pay day to whomever can pilot their machine to a win around the storied 3/8 mile facility . Mother Nature has not been kind to Harris over the last four weeks, as they have tried to get in one show for the SECA late models. "We tried again and after qualifying we thought we would get lucky, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Said Marion Limbaugh Harris Speedway Co-Promoter speaking of this past Saturday.

Just before the rains fell, the field was set with Furman Parton laying down a spectacular lap over David Smith, with Jonathan Duvall and Joey Phillips setting on row two.

Driver Joey Phillips currently 2nd in the City Chevrolet Weekly Points standings trailing only by one point, added "We are going into this weekend happy with our results so far this season, that is a direct reflection of my crew and sponsors, without them I couldn’t do this every week. These guys give everything they have every week in the shop and at the track. We still think there is more to find with the car, and these guys will find it, but over all we feel like our program is in a good place at this point of the year. I think both days will see very stiff competition at two completely different race tracks and it should produce great racing for all the fans." Laughing he added "as long as the weather works with us"

Drivers are encouraged to contact each track and check for any additional safety rules, or any other rules that may pertain to each individual track.

Drivers not currently signed up for the City Chevrolet Weekly Championship can still do so. There are a total of 18 weekends left between now and Sept 22nd (SECA points stop date). These 18 weekends, and a few weekday shows at SECA sanctioned tracks provides drivers, teams more than enough weeks to score their 15 finishes.

SECA City Chevrolet Weekly Points pays out over $18,500 with $7,500 of that going to the winner, and paying the top 20 racers.

Full points are updated weekly and posted on the SECA website at

Keep in mind that only a drivers top 15 races are scored toward City Chevrolet Weekly Championship points.
