City Chevrolet Bonus Points Races 1 and 2: City Chevrolet
Weekly Championship Standings Goes "YOUNG"
SECA City Chevrolet Weekly Championship went bonus racing
this weekend with the two of three bonus points races for
2013.
Night one at Cherokee Speedway seen a twist in the action
and standings pretty much all throughout the event.
Trent Ivey,Adam Yarbrough were the fastest qualifiers of
the night, but the redraw for the top 4 starting spots
which is used by Cherokee Speedway during special events,
seen Billy Thompson and Michael Brown draw the front row
shifting Adam and Trent back to start on row two.
Michael Brown was able to win the battle over Thompson
through turns one and two as he set sail in the first part
of the event. His only serious challenge came when the
leaders began working lap traffic. Thompson seen the door
open one time, but could not make the Mike Stockwell owned
V8 machine fill the gap. Once Brown cleared traffic he
quickly put 3 car lengths between himself and 2nd place
finisher Billy Thompson as he went on to capture his first
SECA main event win this season while piloting the
Blackwell Motorsports, Wholesale Outlet of Greer #27.
Union S.C's Trent Ivey was able to hold off the Yarbrough
Automotive number 57 of Adam Yarbrough during the closing
laps.
The action through the field did not stop as cars were
searching for grip on a slippery surface as a black ring
begin to develop around the speedway. Greg Pilgrim,Travis
knight, Jeff Cooke all battled for 5th-7th throughout the
event. Dan Yarbrough, Charlie Walker and Bradley Weaver
rounded out the top 10.
Night two it was off to Harris Speedway in Harris N.C
The night was started off with drivers seeing two laps of
qualifying for the drivers, which left the field chasing
Dennis "Rambo"Franklin and Furman Parton to the green flag
of the 25 lap main event.
The #2 AES Racing Barry Wright Race Car of Rambo was all
clear for take off as the green waved. Rambo was able to
navigate smoothly through traffic as the leaders worked
heavy traffic shortly after lap 7 of the event. Furman
Parton was able to keep Rambo in sight for the majority of
the race, and it appeared he may have time to make a late
race charge, but it was Clover S.C native and 5th place
starter Ross Bailes making moves working himself under
Parton in the closing laps.
As the checkerd flag fell over the stellar field, Rambo
was able to seal the deal, and pick up the win over Parton,
Bailes, Taylor Hicks and Trent Ivey. "We had a good car
all weekend, we had to change motors about 5 am this
morning, and after a few hours of sleep and a hard days
work, here we are. Daddy and this crew has worked hard all
weekend long, now we can rest a few days" said a grinning
Franklin in Harris Speedway victory lane.
