A 1st Time SECA Winner & New Track Record Highlight SECA's Opening Weekend At Cherokee

Driving the #75 machine of John & Wesley Page, Ross Bailes piloted his way to victory Sunday afternoon at Cherokee Speedway. Bailes, the winner of the 1st heat race on Saturday, vaulted to the lead on lap 1 just ahead of Ron Parker (winner of heat 2). Bailes was flawless until an early restart where he was called for firing too early. This moved the 75 back to the 2nd row and Timbo Mangum assumed the point.

The leaders raced their way through traffic as Ross stalked the T1 car of Mangum lap after lap around the 3/8 mile oval. Entering turn three 3 after the halfway point, Bailes was able to dive to the inside of Mangum to take the lead and never look back. Mangum's impressive run led to a solid runner up finish over hard chargers Parker, Ivey, and Smith.

“This was our first SECA win and it’s great to win our first time out", stated Bailes. "The credit goes to David, Wesley, and everyone that has worked on this car. Their work really showed up today! Timbo, Trent, and Ron were fast all weekend but luckily we were in the right place at the right time with the traffic.”

In addition to kicking off 2014 with a solid Top 5 performance, Ivey's Fast Qualifying performance on Saturday delivered a new Cherokee Speedway track record on the recently resurfaced clay oval.

The 2014 Championship chase is officially underway as Bailes will lead everyone into Carolina Speedway this weekend for the prestigious $2000 to win Skyler Trull Memorial.
