2017 SECA Crate Sportsman Rules

 

RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

2017 membership fees: $60

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER TO RECEIVE WEEKLY POINTS. POINTS ARE NOT 'RETROACTIVE'. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE POINTS UNTIL MEMBERSHIP HAS BEEN PAID IN FULL . If membership is paid 'after' event, that event does not count towards points or the mandatory 15 required for season ending events/and or payouts. Points start the first race of each weekly track and will run through September 17.

POINT SYSTEM

The following system will be utilized for all of the above programs:

Races with 8 or more drivers: 35-34-33-32-31-30-29-28-27-26-25-24-23-22-21-20-19-18-17-16-15-14-13-12 any other starters - 11 pts drivers attempting but not making main event will 10 pts.

Races with less than 8 drivers: 34-33-32-31-30-29-28-27-26-25-24-23-22-21-20-19-18-17-16-15-14-13-12 any other starters- 11 pts drivers attempting but not making main event get 10 pts.

Points will begin Jan 1st and will run through Sept 16th.

Awards Banquet/Point Funds/Tie-Breakers: SECA Awards Banquet will be held at the conclusion of the season. Drivers/Car Owners are expected to attend or have a pre-determined representative to accept awards.
If you canít make the banquet, please make arrangements to have someone there to collect your awards, otherwise you will waive any money or awards that you have earned. In the event of a tie for any of the above championships, tiebreaker will be determined by the driver with the most wins followed by most second place finishes, etc. until the tie is broken. If a tie happens in any other position, the tie will remain with point fund monies added up between the tied positions and split equally.

RULES

Stock unless otherwise stated.

Body: Please see drawings at bottom of rules: The objective of body rules are to keep the cars looking as similar to each other and as close to stock while keeping them RACE CARS. SECA officials will show up unannounced, and measure and observe bodies. Bodies are not protestable items, if SECA officials do not like it, you will be asked to change it, add weight or anything the officials seem fit but not limited to being told you canít race. ( If a weekly tech man has a problem with your body, it is your job to fix it.)

1- Wheelbase - Stock wheel base for chassis being ran. ANY CHASSIS WITH A WHEEL BASE SHORTER THAN 108" WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.- NO jeeps or station wagons.

2- Rubber nose OKÖ Nose must match tailpiece. (If you have a Camaro nose, You must run a Camaro tail piece, Monte Carlo, Nova Charger etc.) No Exotic or late model style noses, or elephant ears allowed.

3- Must run FULL tailpiece rear of car. Tailpiece must match "model" of nose. (M.C tail=M.C nose) (Camaro tail = Camaro nose) Bumper Cover can not be made of sheetmetal.

4- Must run complete, enclosed cockpit. Must have steel floor pan under driver. Front firewall location may be moved for engine clearance. (unibody cars, please see below)

5- Spoilers max Height 6". May run side spoilers. 6" height x 12". May have one 4" spoiler inside car.

6- Weight
Unsealed engine 3200 lbs with driver
SECA sealed engines 3100 lbs with driver.
GM Factory sealed engines 3050 lbs with driver

ATTN: 2018 SECA will require ALL engines to be sealed. The only seal weight break will be for GM seals only.


25 lb weight break for Hans, or containment seat. (Not both, it is either or). SOME TRACKS MAY NOT ALLOW THE 25LB WEIGHT BREAK. PLEASE CHECK BEFORE ASSUMING.

7- NO exposed bars.

8- Body must sit on frame in OEM position.

9- Aftermarket dirt bodies allowed. Must be approved by track.

10- All bodies should carry original body lines.

11- AR Bodies OK.

Chassis & Suspension:

1- Front Suspension components must remain stock or stock type for type of chassis running, unless otherwise stated. This includes draglinks, tie rods, spindles etc. FRONT SUSPENSION!

2- Steering - stock type - Quickeners OK.

3- Front spring spacers OK. NO front screw jacks allowed. OEM rear trailing arms only. Rear spring- jack bolts OK. Rear spring buckets Ok. (Rear Jack Bolt Buckets can be NO taller than 6 inches)

4- Springs may be changed. Must remain in stock location. (Racing springs OK) No stack springs. One spring per wheel allowed.

5- A-Frames -
Upper control arms may be tubular steel or modified OEM.
Longer GM stock type Balljoints OK on upper only (No Screw in ball joints)

Lower control arm must be OEM for frame used, must remain un-altered in stock position. Stock type replacement ball joints only. (NO long balljoint may be used on lower) (NO Screw In Balljoints Allowed). No mono-balls allowed. Must run rubber bushings only.


6- Shocks
Front - Bilstein AK1043 ONLY (Front shock can be raised 3 inches only. May lower 2 inches Only must use lower stock mounting points)
Rear - Bilstein SSR1 ONLY. May move rear shocks.
 

No bumpstops allowed on front or rear shocks. (Unibody cars will need to make brackets with a stud to allow SSR1 shocks to mount up)

7- Engine setback - #1 plug even with center top ball joint.

8- Framework may be reinforced. Uni-body cars (frames) must have stock floor pan and must be in stock location. Tubing may run from front most rear spring mounting points (at intersection of frame and rear portion of the uni-body) to the first turn-up of the front frame rail only. Mounting points for front frame rails must remain bolted in position. Frame may be X braced. Rusted out portions of floor pan may be patched. All suspension points must be in stock location. (Shock mounting points may be reinforced.)

As announced in 2016: ALL UNIBODY CARS MUST HAVE STOCK FLOOR PAN and FIREWALL and MUST BE IN STOCK LOCATION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

2017 we will allow the JOHNSON RACING X.Y.G Metric CHASSIS. (This is the ONLY aftermarket chassis that is allowed). Please visit his site at www.johnsonchassis.com 

Johnson SECA or Crate Racin USA X.Y.G TUBULAR FRAMES ALLOWED. ALL TUBULAR FRAMES WILL BE SERIAL NUMBERED. ANY TUBULAR FRAME WITHOUT THE SECA OR CRATE RACIN SERIAL NUMBERS WILL BE CONSIDERED ILLEGAL. ANY Johnson FRAME OR REPAIRED CLIP FOUND ALTERED COULD RESULT IN SEVERE FINES AND SUSPENSIONS FOR THE RACER.

Stock Metric frames have the option to be repaired with SECA or Crate Racin USA tubular front and/or rear clip. Front and Rear Clips will also have SECA or Crate Racin USA serial numbers.

Stock Metric frames have the option to run the following Johnson parts:

Left Upper A Frame - JCI-09-02-003R
Right Upper A Frame - JCI-09-02-003L
Left Lower A Frame - JCI-09-02-01RC-L-SP
Right Lower A Frame - JCI-09-02-01RC-R-SP
Rear Upper Trailing Arm JCI-09-03-04B
Rear Lower Trailing Arm JCI-09-03-03B

Engine:

1- GM crate motor only. Part #88958602 (350 stock circle track engine-88958602) May rebuild, must use GM parts as set forth by GM. (Notice: GM changes parts/ and or part numbers more often than we would like. This is often done without notice to SECA, parts distributors, and engine builders. We all take this into consideration. Common sense must sometimes be applied)

2-
Any HEI distributor - Can be locked out. Vacuum optional. (May use any stock or any replacement cap, any rotor button) May run a MSD,DUI etc HEI module. (No Magnetos. No Crank Trigger Systems) (No ignition boxes allowed)

3- Carburetor - Boxstock 650 Holley #4777. May remove choke flap only. No four corner idle screws. May drill holes through butterfly. (May change jets, power valve, plastic secondary squitter arm replacement OK ) Must run a 1" open spacer . Spacer can not be tapered, radiused or beveled. Inside walls must be flat. Please use Allstar Performance 25981 for a reference of what an open spacer is.

4- NO cold air boxes, (No metal or plastic allowed under the breather/and or carb. This includes any metal or plastic that may direct air), may cut hole in hood for air cleaner with max. 4 1/2" tall scoop or air deflector. Scoop may be no more than 4" wider than air cleaner. Spacer from Air Cleaner seal surface on Carb to base of Air Cleaner seal allowed, with max length of 4 inches.

5- Exhaust system- Schoenfeld #186 & #186CM ONLY (There are multiple #186 headers, these are the only two that measure as follows 1 3/4 Tube Diameter. 3 1/2 collector diameter x 8 collector length) No "X" or merge type pipes allowed. Maximum of 12" pipe ONLY (measured from end of collector), has to be the same diameter of collector. No additional pipe/tube/obstructions etc can be used to extend or create an extension of the exhaust or to create more back pressure. (ex. leaving a gap and mounting or hanging another pipe)

6- No electric radiator cooling fans.

7-No mufflers allowed (unless track has mandatory requirements)

8- Aftermarket pulley system & belts OK

9- Any plugs and plugwires OK

10-No electric water pumps

Fuel System:

1- Fuel -Track fuel ONLY. Must pass track test.

2- Fuel pump - stock type, mechanical only.

3- Fuel cell - MANDATORY

Driveline:

1- Clutch- Single disc, stock or stock equivalent replacement clutch only. Must have solid lining only. Must have spring(s) in clutch.

2- Pressure plate- stock or stock replacement only, steel only.
Hydraulic throw out bearing ok. Pressure plate must weigh a minimum of 12 lbs. (This is to be weighed alone) If it is determined that you have modified, or altered the pressure plate, IT IS WRONG)

3- Flywheel- GM P/N 14088646 or aftermarket equivalent. 12.75" diameter. 14 lb. Min. weight.

4- Scatter shield or 3/16" plate around flywheel area-MANDATORY

5- Transmission- GM Saginaw or Muncie manual transmission 3 speed only. ALL working gears forward & reverse. All forward gears must be helical cut teeth. May run 350 or 400 turbo automatic with OEM working torque converter. Flexplate must be GM #14088765 or GM #14088761. No Powerglides. (Transmission internal parts can NOT be polished, coated, or lightened.)

6- Drive shaft - steel only. 1 1/2" min. diameter.

7- Rear end - Stock factory or 9" Ford. Any ratio OK. Posi-traction or locked OK. Floater OK. 9" Ford mounting points must be stock type with NO adjustability. 4 1/2" max - 3 1/2" min from center of the axle tube to center of trailing arm bolt. (ANY ADDITIONAL HOLES MUST BE REMOVED) Gundrilled axles OK, Any gear. polished & lightened ok. No titanium.

8- Rear Trailing Arms

Lower- OEM rear trailing arms, only must remain stock
Upper- May change length or relocate bolt hole for pinion angle
Left & Right lower trailing arms must be same length
Left & Right upper trailing arms must be same length

Brakes:

1- Stock type - 4 wheel disc OK. No aftermarket, no aluminum. Must have operational 4 wheel braking system. (No brake cutoff allowed. This means functional or non functional, it is illegal to have on the car) Scalloped Rotors are NOT ALLOWED. Drilled Rotors OK

2- Racing pedals OK. Adjusters OK. Dual Master cylinders OK

Tires & Wheels:

8" Tread width racing tires. Hoosier M500 all the way around. H500 is an optional tire.

2- 8" max. width steel wheel. Large wheel studs OK. Bead locks OK. Outward facing only.

ANY ITEM NOT SPECIFIED ABOVE MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE HAND OR IT IS NOT LEGAL!!!

CLAIM ITEMS

(after main event only) Any driver finishing inside the top 5 can claim from another driver in the top 5

Shock claim- $80 Per Front Shock. $125 per Rear Shock.

Transmission claim - $300.

Carb claim - $450.

Distributor $200.

Claim cost may change due to increase/decrease of price from manufacturer.

Any parts being claimed, will be inspected as follows.

Carb- Check Part number only.

Transmission- Jack car up, check for three working forward gears and reverse.

Shocks (ALL)- visual inspection for part number only

Distributer- Distributor is to be pulled out and handed over, there is no inspection, claim is sold as is. Distributor, cap, rotor, module is all included.

If claimed part is visually wrong based on above, the claim is VOID. Driver with illegal part will be disqualified with no points or winnings from the event.

PROTEST

Any protest items not specifically covered below are considered track protest items, track protest rules will apply (this does include Claimable items).

1-Complete engine teardown:
$800 ($400 acceptance fee) - Engine will be impounded and checked by certified builder. $200 to the builder, $200 to the track $800 to the winner of the protest.

Non Sealed (engines that have been unsealed, not resealed by certified builder)
$600 ($400 acceptance fee) - Engine will be impounded and checked by a certified builder ($200 to builder- $200 to the track $600 to winner of the protest).

2- Clutch Assembly- Includes Clutch disk, Pressure plate & flywheel : $200. Track retains $100.

3- Tire Chemical Protest: $100.00 per tire to protest- $100 per tire acceptance fee. 3 grooved strips removed from tire & sent for lab testing.

4- Fuel Protest: $50.00

Track protest rules apply: This is in regard(s) to the protest process, along with who and when a car can be protested. Please check the tracks rule books.

Looking for small or unimportant errors or faults (Nitpicking) will not be tolerated or allowed as nor on protested items. We are well aware that this rule book will not cover every situation or issue that may arise. Track Tech man has final say on ALL protested, claimed item issues. (Full engine teardowns are teched by a certified SECA builder)

IF YOU ARE CAUGHT CHEATING "WITHIN THE BOLTS"
Driver is fined $1000 and suspended from SECA Crate Sportsman competition for 30 days. All weekly championship points are forfeited. Cannot compete at any WEEKLY SANCTIONED TRACK In Crate Sportsman during the suspension. Track event: (Track receives 50% of $1000 fine once paid). 2nd Offense - Will result in an immediate disqualification and a suspension will be set at SECA officials discretion.

IF YOU ARE CAUGHT COMPETING WITH TIRES THAT FAIL TO MEET THE BENCHMARK SET FORTH BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER:

(Penalties based on calendar year)

1st offense: $1000.00 fine, loss of points, prize money - (minus one race at end of year standings). We will only score your best 14 races. Also a 50 point deduction to year end points total.

2nd offense: $2500.00 fine, loss of points, prize money - (minus one race at end of year standings). we will only score your best 13 races. Also a 100 point deduction to year end points total.

3rd offense: $5000.00 fine, loss of points, prize money suspension to be set at SECA management discretion.

$500 of each tire fine will go toward the track where the tire was found not to conform with the benchmark.

Please note, there are NO appeals, NO 2nd,3rd 4th samples sent. THE LAB RESULTS ARE FINAL.

INDIVIDUAL TRACK RULES

Note that track rules on an individual basis may over ride SECA rules. This is in relation to mufflers, safety items, etc. such as window nets, gloves, etc. Please check with the individual track before attending an event. SECA officials reserve the right to amend/change add or remove any rules at anytime as seen fit by SECA officials in the interest of competition. SECA officials decision is final.

POLICY

SECA Officials, and SECA sanctioned race tracks reserve the right to refuse any racer or race car to compete, without notice at anytime for any reason.
